When we walked into the building that we knew we would open our very first restaurant in, we felt overwhelmed with tasks, but excited at the possibilities. Knowing that we wanted to create a space that was uniquely our own, we saw what as essentially a 'Clean Slate' for customization, and started from the ground up.
The carpet was the first thing to go.
It may just be ' a floor' to a lot of people, but to us it represents a way of doing things right by building a solid foundation. And, at the very least, create the vibe we are looking to achieve.
What we thought would be a task that would take a couple of nights, took a couple of weeks to complete. As we ripped up the old carpet, stripped the glue, and prepped the concrete floor for staining, we all knew the blood, sweat, and tears would be worth it (and just to be clear, it was mostly sweat).
Finally, we brought the professionals in to acid stain the floors-- a process that creates a marbled variation of colors by way of the chemical reaction of the minerals within the concrete. The finished look results in the concrete reacting with its own unique pattern, making every square inch unique.
The result is something different that still keeps our vintage, industrial vibe. The acid stain concrete was the perfect fit for The Foundry.
Even with all these photos, it's something you'll still have to see in person to fully experience.
